United States - FTC Issues Final Rule to Protect Consumers in Credit Card Debt

The FTC's Telemarketig Sales Rule will prohibit for-profit companies that sell debt relief services by telephone from charging a fee before they settled or reduce a customer's credit card or other unsecured debt. The rule also applies to calls people make to these firms in response to debt relief advertising.
