SIC orders digital platforms to withdraw products that offer alleged benefits against Covid-19

The request of the Superintendency of Industry and Commerce was made to the platforms MERCADOLIBRE COLOMBIA LTDA, LINIO COLOMBIA SAS and OLX COLOMBIA SAS 

Bogotá DC, April 07, 2020. The Superintendency of Industry and Commerce, in its role as the national authority for consumer protection, ordered, among other things, MERCADOLIBRE COLOMBIA LTDA, LINIO COLOMBIA SAS and OLX COLOMBIA SAS, to withdraw from their platforms all product publications that used the words "COVID-19", "CORONAVIRUS" and others similar or equivalent.
The previous decision was made based on the provisions of number 9 of article 59 of Law 1480 of 2011 and considering that the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of Colombia issued the document called “ABECÉ. NUEVO CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) ”, in which it indicates that until now there are no products or medications capable of preventing the spread of the virus or curing those who suffer from it.
